Let’s face it: first thing in the morning is not coffee, it’s Instagram or Facebook. Every June 30th the world celebrates Social Media Day. Nowadays Internet penetrated deeply into our lives, being an important means of communication and source of information. News, memes, likes, shares, comments became sort of addiction to some people. This week I have challenged myself to live one day without social media, using my phone only for calls, photographs and videos. I found this surpringly easy, probably because I only use social media at home or where there's WiFi. Right now I am in the city of Moscow. At the moment it's the World Cup so there are lots of things to see, to do and to even meet new people from different countries. So after a gym session I went where most people were: Nikolskaya street. However my walk started very early in the morning therefore there weren't as many people as usual. Still already at 8.45am someone was interviewing a Brazilian fan. As I walked on there was a small closed off area because somebody had left their bag and it looked suspicious. Me already experiencing a terrorist attack once decided to walk on and not stick around because who knows, it could be what they suspect. I stayed calm and went to explore the red square. There were football inspired activities as well as Russian cultural attractions. I went to the ice rooms which showed different ice sculptures in the theme of different cities of Russia. I tried to play a little football, posed for photos and enjoyed exploring this activity area.
Then I went home to rest where I watched a tv programme and had a phone conversation with my mum.
When the time came to 6pm I went for a walk in the park in search of an open air dance area. Eventually I found it but it took some time.
I enjoyed a lot of dancing there. It was so magical to dance on the bay of the river especially at night when the lights reflected on the water.
Just after 11pm I decided to start to head home. It was such a lovely warm evening that I took my time with the walk back taking in the gorgeous views.
I was staying in a hotel in Moscow City (name of an area in Moscow) which is at Mejdugorodnaya tube station. Before going to bed I had a lovely cup of tea on 11th floor which also had a cool video.
During the whole day I didn't think once about social media and never had the erge to use it. I felt happy and at peace without it. Therefore I think once a month we should have such a day without internet.
Here are photos and a video of my day.
