I was thinking a lot about this post. I have read a lot of materials in the Internet considering the most unusual traditions all over the world. You know, tradition is a such unique thing. For one people it could sound crazy while for others it could be sense of life, smth sacral that they believe in. I can't say we have some special traditions in our family, they are almost the same as in all Ukrainian families I think.
But while I was reading about unusual traditions all over the world I found among them legend of the Ukraine's Spider Web Tree. I interested me a lot. I live in Ukraine all my childhood but never heard of this tree. I want to share it with you)
Christmas trees in the Ukraine are often covered in spider webs. An ancient legend tells of a poor family who grew a Christmas tree from a pinecone. The children, so thrilled by the idea of their very own tree, spent months dreaming up ways to decorate it for the holiday. But the family was penniless, so the children’s tree would remain unadorned. Upon waking, the children discovered that spiders had spun webs of glistening silk around the tree’s branches. Each thread magically turned into silver and gold as the morning’s sun danced upon the tree’s bows. Today, Ukrainians dress up their trees with spider webs to welcome good luck into the coming year.
As for me, I did not know about that. I have never seen or heard people dress they Christmas Trees in Ukraine with spider webs) This tradition I found in the list of the most special traditions all over the world. I want to try=) I liked the history of the creating of this tree, it gives some hopes, sounds like miracle. Well, maybe I just did not hear about it and it is really famous. But it caught my attention. Cristmas is really time of miracles that come to those, who really believe them=)
