Hey guys,

I love food and I actually already told you about one of my favourite dishes which is pho, the national dish of Vietnam. Another favourite of mine is Bulgogi, gogi, or Korean BBQ. If you've never had it, you're missing out.

One of my favourite cooks is Maangchi. She has a website and I often follow her recipes. She taught me so much about cooking Korean and Korea food is my ultimate favourite. Please try some real Korean food. It's amazing and healthy too. Here is the link to her BBQ recipe. http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/bulgogi

I am also gonna put here a video of how to make it.

I usually skip the ginger and I don't use the syrup but I use some honey or nothing. I also put some coke or sprite or something like that in the marinade to help soften the meat. It makes a difference.

Ok so the marinade is the most important thing. You can eat the beef with whatever vegetables you want and rice.
Here is the marinade that I usually use. It's a little different from Maangchi's. I marinade the beef overnight.

Marinade (for 1 pound of beef):
  • ½ cup or 1 crushed pear or apple
  • 1 onion
  • 4 to 6cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 chopped green onions
  • 3 tbs soy sauce
  • 2 tbs brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tbs toasted sesame oil (the Korean or Japanese sesame oil is toasted)
  • 1 tbs Coke or Sprite or a similar sparkling drink.
You should have some kimchi ( this is at every Korean meal) as well as Korean or Japanese rice and the other side dishes or vegetables are optional.

The best way to eat after grilling or pan frying the meat is to have lettuce and take a piece of lettuce and put some rice in it and meat in it and kimchi and whatever vegetables, wrap it up and eat it.

The simple way to eat it is to put it on a plate with rice.

Here is the video. Please try it and tell me how you like it.

Now here is the link to my other post about Pho

I lived in Japan but I'm from Toronto, Canada which is a very multicultural city with a Korean Town, J-town and 3 china towns which actually have a lot of Vietnamese restaurants and things. I grew up around a lot of vietnamese and chinese people. My best friend is Vietnamese and I grew up with Pho. My brother and sister's best friends were also Vietnamese when they were children. As a teen I used to eat bulgogi and spend a lot of time in Korean town and during University lived by Korean town. For me Bulgogi is a dish that is a part of my culture and who I am. So is Pho and dim sum though. Torontonians are used to eating asian food and the asian food in Toronto is legit. I was using chopsticks when I was 6 and counting to 10 in Vietnamese as well. Maybe other English speaking kids played rock, paper scissors but I played su, sam, si. I'm not sure what language it is, but that's the rock, paper scissors that I grew up with and I like the sound of it better.

At home I cook a lot of Korean, and Japanese and sometimes invent my own fusion dishes. I only eat western style when I buy ready made food from the shops here in Italy or when I go out to eat. Living in Italy, sometimes I have a hard time, cause I don't like pasta and huge portions of meat. My parents were actually vegetarian and big pieces of meat freak me out a bit. Sometimes it's hard ordering in restaurants here. there aren't any good asian restaurants where I live. You can find chinese restaurants but they are not good or authentic at all. I have a rice cooker at home and can cook better chinese than the restaurants here. Well, that's my story.
