There have been some news reporting that there were employees who work so hard and end up dying. You might find it absurd, but it is really the case.

In some Asian countries, such as Hong Kong and Taiwan, the job market is highly competitive and demanding. Employers always require their staff to have Over-time working. Some staff would have subsidies (if lucky enough to have a good employer), but most of them don’t.

It is not rare to hear from my friends that they usually have over-time working until 1,2am in the morning (but next day they still need to be back at 9am). And one of my friend’s boss always assigns him some tasks though whatsapp even in mid-night or at ungodly hour. I can tell the work pressure is unbelievably high.

Not many employees in Hong Kong could enjoy so-called work-life balance. The working condition is so intense plus the overwhelming workload which exploits the time of the staff from staying with family and friends. Some even work too hard at the expenses of their lives. Yes, Hong Kong is a prosperous and affluent city, it attributes to the sacrifice made by the labor.
