Viva la healthy breakfast, runners!

Since I am trying to push myself to run more, researching (and experimenting) with foods has become yet another daily habit of mine. I am trying to find the best possible combinations that would nourish my body and would prepare it for a long, intensive, a few-hour lasting movement. A lot of people who start running ask themselves - what is it specifically that I should before a run? How do I make sure I get everything I need and don't feel too heavy when I'm actually running?

I normally try to do my long (over 15km) runs in the first part of the day, which means that breakfast is supposed to be the only meal before my actual run. Here are a few little tips from my side:

1. EAT SEEDS
Like most aspects of training, finding the optimal time to eat before your run is an individual preference. I normally eat around 30-40 minutes before my run and I try to consume a good mixture of nuts and seeds before that (a little bit like a birdie, yes). Chia seeds have become one of the most popular superfoods in the health community: originally grown in Mexico, the seeds are highly valued for their medical properties. If you consume a big spoon of pre-soaked chia along with flax seeds together with fx. mashed banana and apple along with a pinch of cinnamon, from a nutritional side you are fully prepared for your run.

2. DON'T DRINK TOO MUCH WATER

A glass of water is perfectly fine, but greater amounts than that are not recommended. Big amounts of water will not be used in your body that quickly so you will simply want to go to toilet which (if you are running) is not one of the best options...

3. DIGEST
Give yourself some time to actually relax and digest the food you consumed. If you start running right after you will feel heavy. Even more to that, running might affect faster digestion so you will end up burping all the time (and no one wants that).

Today I used my own ideas - had a lovely chia pudding for breakfast along with a small slice of a cashew cake and went for a run. Despite the rain outside it was a nice and refreshing morning

Day 8 accomplished: went for a short run (5km), had chia pudding for breakfast packed with omega-3 fatty acids and did 40 minutes of exercises for glutes. Feeling like a champ!
