This is how I network.
Well I think the main thing is really that you be positive and friendly and relaxed and be yourself.
I've never had any issues. I always smile and greet people and stand straight and am polite.
- The obvious things are that you should dress appropriately and arrive on time. Don't be too early or too late. Punctual is good but earlier is better than later.
- Let me tell you about Japanese business etiquette.
Closed toe dress shoes are a must. You cannot wear open toed shoes. Men must wear a suit and a tie. Keep your jacket and tie on and fastened correctly, no matter how hot it is. Girls must wear stockings. You cannot not wear stockings especially with a skirt because then it's so obvious if you're not wearing stockings. No piercings or obviously dyed hair. Don't wear bright coloured or too funky makeup either. Also your skirt should not be too short.
Dress well and you will feel more confident at the event or meeting
.- When you greet someone you should have your business card ready. Smile and introduce yourself and maybe whoever you are with, if you're with someone. Be relaxed, not pushy or too aggressive. That can be annoying. Be confident but modest and humble. Exchange cards and thank them for the conversation before you leave.
- During the actual conversation I stay away from topics like politics and religion. I try to stay on neutral topics. I want to show that I'm interested in the person I'm talking to and I ask them about their job and talk about the news or about the event. I try to ask a lot of questions and answer their questions honestly. Be polite, interested, and sincere. Don't get too personal. Be proffessional. When you talk about yourself, show that you are proffessional and know what you're talking about.
- Don't forget to enjoy yourself as well as the converstions. I love meeting new people and that's what networking is about. If you are sincere and relaxed and enjoying yourself, it shows and your positivity will also show. Put good energy out there and hopefully it will come back to you.
I found these pictures inspiring. There are millions of people in the world. You will find the right ones.
