Even if you forget about the military nonsense, you do not need to be paranoid to note the abundance of hurricanes, floods and disasters that have fallen on the world community recently - to take the hurricane Harvey, which raged the other day in Texas, that killed 5 people and hundreds left homeless. So a little theory in matters of survival you definitely will not hurt. Just in case.
How and where to survive the end of the world: 6 main rules from experts

The main question is: where
Alive? Well, fine. The house in which you lived, most likely, destroyed, but in the same way destroyed and the bank in which you took a loan to buy an apartment. Information about local restaurants and parking has lost its meaning. Now we have to think about the weather, water and materials. "Make sure you are not in the lowlands," says survival expert Jason Ingamells, founder and chief instructor of Woodland Ways Bushcraft and Survival. Cold air settles down, and stopping for the night in a ravine or valley makes you survive a very cold night. Instead, ascend the slope two-thirds of its base to protect itself from the weather. It is best to get to the wooded area, if possible. There it is easier to hide and collect materials for the construction and heating of a new refuge.

Build a house
In the heat and cold for survival, the roof above your head is most important. "You will need a thorough construction so that it can withstand your weight," says Ingamells. "It will increase your chances of surviving until the morning, if something falls from above in the middle of the night." Erect something with triangular walls: the pyramid is one of the most durable forms. We were all taught to respect and protect nature, but if things go this far, then boldly cut down the forest. Then we need to take care of the water. Collect the foliage or fern and spread them like tiles, layers by the thickness of the hand. "Sitting under the roof, you do not have to see the sunlight coming through from above. Particular attention was given to the top two thirds of the cover, since they will take on the full force of the rain, "adds Ingamells. The foundation of the structure should also be laid out with leaves, so that they absorb the sweat that is draining from you. Or, on the contrary, protected from the cold of the earth.

Gather water
Even if your new house is two-story and with a verandah, without water you will not last long. In her quest, Ingamells advises going down the hill. Brooks follow gravity and expand along the course of their current, so sooner or later you will stumble upon one of them. Do not hurry, however, to fill your jar, because the closer you get to the source, the less likely that in your water will be bacteria from the decaying corpse of the animal: try to climb upstream as far as possible.

If you are not sure that the water is safe (and you do not have a lab to check it too), then it will have to be cleaned. In this sense, your best friend is fire. First, filter large rubbish. Then heat the water to a boil, it will destroy the bacteria, and let it cool.

And where can I get the fire?
I'll have to improvise. Ingamells explains that in a natural setting, there are no guaranteed ways to get a raging flame, but in any environment, you can find options for breeding it. He recommends mastering about 12 ways of obtaining fire, and then it's your parking lot that can boast a shish kebab in the wild night.

Remember the experience of our ancestors
"McDonald's" next to your new home is no more, and sooner or later you will feel hunger, so you will have to look for food yourself.
"Never put anything in your mouth that you're not 100% sure of," Ingamells warns. Therefore, ignore all the mushroom and berry delicacies that will meet you on the way. Instead, focus on the protein. Animals in their habits and needs are largely similar to humans. Learn where they go to the watering place, where they sleep and find their food, and then install traps everywhere.

Prepare a safety kit
When civilization starts to crumble, there will not be time to stop at the store. Putting a backpack with essential items near the door will allow you to prepare for a collision with wildlife. That's what it should be put: a knife, warm waterproof clothing, plastic film (the roof of a new shelter), a set of fishing accessories, a water purification kit, a lighter with protection from wind and moisture and fuel for it.
