It’s always easier to criticize than to create better, especially in film industry. Filmmaking is not a simple process, and success of the movie depends on many factors and requires one great team effort. Producer, director, scriptwriter, actors, DP, editor, sound and costume designers…and many more participants must be just right to make a good movie.

So, I’m not going to criticize anything today. Instead, let me tell you about a movie I recently watched, unexpectedly loved it so much and highly recommend it everyone, as long as full age, as the story is pretty violent, so…not for kids! And the movie is...…Drumbeat…“Casino”, 1995 by Martin Scorsese

Being a big mafia movies lover, I, somehow, missed out this one. And when a friend of mine told me about “Casino” and was greatly astonished by the fact I didn’t see it, I seemed to be quite skeptical about it. After all, nothing else can impress me after “The Godfather”, “Scarface”, “Once upon a time in America”, I thought. What a surprise it was for me when I finally watched it, and it really touched my heart. So, what about it?

Don’t worry, no spoilers… just my personal experiences and feelings. Here are some things in the movie I can highlight for you to understand why I liked it gave it a high score.

Story: Las Vegas mafia life from the inside: money, business, rules. Relationship and trust are also a movie's central topics. No wonder the movie starts from the words of main Character Ace Rothstein, that immediately got my attention: "When you love someone, you've got to trust them. There's no other way. You've got to give them the key to everything that's yours. Otherwise, what's the point? And, for a while, I believed that's the kind of love I had”. My reaction was like “woooow, that’s got to be something interesting!

Performance: The movie is superbly acted. Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone play two main characters and I can say these are ones of their best roles. Also Joe Pesci… He brings his incomparable charisma just right. Extremely passionate and emotional acting! Characters are so well done that I still can remember each and every of them in details. Shall I say more?

Atmosphere: I literally immersed myself in 70-s Las Vegas mood. Vivid interiors and costumes, stylish casino, splendid nights with Champaign and caviar...

Despite “Casino” can be rated as another crime drama, for me it became special for always. I can say it is a legendary movie that will definitely make you understand something for yourself...
Bravo, maestro, Martin Scorsese!
