Day 21: The Finish Line

And here it is: the last, the final, the most waited day of Dukascopy Marathon!
Here's a short summary of the things I've achieved within those 21 days:
1. Minimized my fat & sugar consumption
Instead, I decided to stick to low-calorie, fulfilling meals. For snacks I was choosing nuts, berries and seeds instead of sugary buns or chocolates.
2. Instead of taking a bus to work, I chose bike
Within 21 days I managed to bike 2.7x2x21 = 113 kilometers!
3. Improved my running speed
Went for a run …

Day 19: Gym Gym Gym

After finishing 10 kilometers yesterday I thought I should give a little bit of a break for my legs. That, however, did not stop me from sports: I still went to the gym, ran 2 kilometers (as a warm up) and continued the training with exercises focused on my upper body - back, chest and arms.
I feel that fully focusing and dedicating one training to my lower body allows me to achieve better results in running as I tend to stretch and "prepare" muscles in that way. As for the upper part - always h…

Day 13: Healthy Breakfast = Fuel For The Day

I guess your mother (just like mine) was right: breakfast is a really important meal. Perhaps, the most important of the day. Having a good having of eating breakfast every day is linked to many health benefits, including weight control and improved performance.
When I was a little younger I would normally stick to a so-called "big brunch" instead of breakfast - I'd rather eat later, around 10-11 am and would stick to rather heavy foods, such as pancakes, scrambled eggs or a sandwich. As years g…

Day 10: Mental Holidays

Happy Easter everyone!
Since here in Latvia we are enjoying 4 wonderful days off, I am using a so-needed time to refresh my mind and relax to the fullest. Keeping sports aside at this very moment I planned my days throughout, spending time with my family, reading, cooking and simply enjoying little things that make every woman happy, such as beauty procedures.
I have realized that I "burn out" very quickly (see my previous post) so I really, really needed those days off to fully relax and "rech…

Day 8: Little Birdie Wants Some Seeds

Viva la healthy breakfast, runners!
Since I am trying to push myself to run more, researching (and experimenting) with foods has become yet another daily habit of mine. I am trying to find the best possible combinations that would nourish my body and would prepare it for a long, intensive, a few-hour lasting movement. A lot of people who start running ask themselves - what is it specifically that I should before a run? How do I make sure I get everything I need and don't feel too heavy when I'm…

Day 5: Monday-Funday

Congratulations! Life just gifted you with another wonderful week. 5 more days to get 5 steps closer towards the life(style) you want. 5 days to get 5 times out of your comfort zone to grow and become a better person. 5 days to forgive yourself and others and focus on your fantastic future instead of dwelling in the past. Will you take on this challenge?
How often do you wake up with the smile on your face, jumping from the bed and dancing with the groove from happiness, since it's a new day? To

Day 3: Tasty Fresh Dinner + Mind Relaxation

On Fridays I would usually want to treat myself a little, and normally that would be with some food. Obviously, I am not talking about diet meals and low-calorie salads, but I'm rather talking about some pizza and beer (yes, you heard me correctly, I love beer).
Committing to Dukascopy Marathon this time means slightly different Friday treats - after coming back from work I cooked a lovely stew where I used steamed veggies (aubergine, squash, onion and chickpeas, to be precise) and then cooked t…

Recipe for the food?

I just put all the veggies that I had (namely, cauliflower, green beans, a bit of carrot and red bell pepper) and steamed it. Ate it along with the kidney beans as a plant-based source of protein. It was delicious!

Sleeping 8-9 Hours... Mission Accomplished!

Wakey wakey, eggs and bacey! Or rather, not eggs and bacey at all, but a nutritious meal made out of fruits and seeds.
Normally I take all my commitments really seriously, so taking the challenge of Dukascopy Marathon to me means committing to a challenge every day. To fully dedicate myself to my chosen tasks I divided my marathon time (21 days) into 3 weeks, and 9 tasks into 3 at a time, or rather 3 tasks per week. So this week my motto is …
“Cut out lactose” “Pump up thigh muscles” “Sleep 8-
